What goes under the stone

Layer 1

Flatness check

We measure the slab and grind high spots or self-level low ones so large stones sit flat.

Layer 2

Crack isolation

A membrane over slab cracks helps keep them from telegraphing through your stone.

Layer 3

White thinset

Light-colored mortar so translucent marbles don't darken or stain.

Layer 4

Stone & seal

Leveling clips control lippage; joints are grouted and the stone is sealed.

Bright living room with arched windows

Finishes

Polished, honed, or brushed

Polished reflects light and shows off veining. Honed is matte, hides etching and scratches, and is less slippery. Brushed adds subtle texture. We'll show you samples of each.

Flooring FAQ

Can you install over existing tile?

Sometimes, if the old tile is fully bonded and flat, and the added height works with your doors. For natural stone we usually recommend removal for the best long-term result.

How long until I can walk on it?

Light foot traffic after 24 hours; furniture after 48–72 hours, depending on the setting materials used.

Do you order extra stone?

Yes — typically 10–15% overage for cuts and future repairs. Because stone lots vary, we recommend keeping a few spare pieces.
